LCCI Tri-Valley Region's 'All Aboard ' Fall Excursion 


Plan on arriving at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley’s parking lot (901 Amherst Street, Winchester, VA) by 11am for an 11:15 departure.  We’ll travel west on US Route 50 for about an hour through towns with quaint topographical names like Round Hill, Hanging Rock and Sunrise Summit.  Fall foliage is expected to be approaching its peak, so we should be able to enjoy a rainbow (no…not that rainbow!) of colors.

 

Lunch will be at the Lost Mountain BBQ Company (24991 Northwestern Pike, Romney, WV) a family roadside establishment featuring delicious BBQ, Baby Back Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork, Smoked Chicken and more. Josh and his staff will take our orders – only one at a time at the order window, please – and depending on the weather we can take advantage of their covered porch and umbrella table seating or eat in our vehicles.

 

After lunch we’ll take a short 10 minute ride up N. High Street (WV Route 28) to the Wappocomo Station of the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad (149 Eagle Drive, Romney, WV), a heritage shortline operation. We’ll board one of their 1920s-era standard coach cars pulled by an F7A locomotive in Baltimore & Ohio livery that will depart the station at 2:30pm sharp.  The consist includes a concession car as well as an open-air car for better photo-taking and where restrooms are located

 

This excursion is a 3-hour trip that goes southbound through the Trough to Sycamore Bridge and back, approximately a 35-mile round trip.The Trough is a canyon on a remote section of the South Branch of the Potomac River in Hardy and Hampshire Counties in eastern West Virginia. Its steep, heavily forested walls and rocky outcrops provide particularly stunning fall views and opportunities to see the American bald eagles who make their home here.

 

Regular fares for the train trip are Adults-$59, Seniors(60+)-$54, which includes all fees and taxes, but the Club is offering a $20 subsidy, so your cost will be Adults-$39, Seniors(60+)-$34.  Please RSVP to John Cinelli and pay for this event online.no later than Thursday, October 8th. No refunds will be available after that date..Trains fill up fast, particularly for these limited-in-number fall foliage journeys, so please RSVP ASAP if you plan to join us for this outing. Seating after that date cannot be guaranteed.
